Carl Mansker was born in Los Angeles, California in 1935. He received his bachelors degree in music from the University of California. After two years further study in New York he went to Munich where he received a scholarship from the Bavarian State to study piano with Rosl Schmid at the Münchner Musikhochschule. After graduating (1967) he spent several years concertizing through Europe. As a result of his concert tours of Spain he and his wife, the Swiss painter Antoinette Mansker, now divide their time between Munich and Deia, Mallorca. Though he still teaches and concertizes, he devotes himself mainly to composition. His works have been performed in many countries from Australia to Turkey and many have been recorded by the Bavarian State Radio. He was commissioned to write an opera for the tenth aniversary of the Deia International Music Festival. He composed "El bon senyor Karnak" to a libretto in catalan by Josep Maria Llompart, based on "Hunger" by Jakov Lind. The premier was in June 1988, opening the music festival in Palma de Mallorca. He has recently completed his first symphony "Algabal" and is now working on a commission for a string quartet.
